Phobia cure tested during our NLP Practitioner course (Arachnophobia)

Phobia cure is one of the processes we teach on our NLP Practitioner course. The NLP phobia cure uses extended dissociation, unawfulizing, scrambling and future-pacing.

One of our students touching a spider's web after a phobia cure on the course. It is great to test the success of a phobia cure as soon as possible. This is one of our students touching a spider’s web after going through a phobia cure on the course.

DSC 8544She had experienced a shock visit from a spider many years ago when one appeared on her face while in a car travelling at speed – where she could not get away from it straight away. Since then, she had not been able to go into her back yard with freedom and she always suspected shoes had spiders in them if left out.

Here she is now, minutes after the phobia cure, looking and touching the webs of two differnent spiders in different parts of the garden.

Influencing with Integrity: Management Skills for Communication and Negotiation

Influencing with Integrity is a great book to put some of what you may have learned in NLP into practice and use the skills and processes to truly influence those around you with integrity. The focus is worthy, and the subtle perspective is stll refreshing even though the book was written and first published in 1983.

For those who enjoy to read and yet learn with some visuals, this appeals as many concepts are laid out in a unique way, bringing more insight into the deeper aspects of some areas we may take for granted.

This book is not directed at any specific use (ie. parenting, business or selling), but can be useful for any of these areas, giving you a great grounding in what you are doing with NLP. The focus is on Management Skills for Communication and Negotiation as the title implies.

This book has good reviews by many authorities, including John Grinder and Richard Bandler, and has been cited by over 90 other authors in their books also.

Be the one that stands out from the crowd with NLP

“When people say to me: ‘How do you do so many things?’ I often answer them, without meaning to be cruel: ‘How do you do so little?’ It seems to me that people have vast potential. Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don’t. They sit in front of the telly and treat life as if it goes on forever.” — Philip Adams

The NLP Pattern of the Month: The Change Cycle- by Robert Dilts

To implement the Belief Change Cycle, lay out separate locations for each of the states associated with the ‘landscape’ of belief change. This essentially involves having the person put himself or herself as fully as possible into the experience and physiology associated with each of these aspects of the natural cycle of belief change Read the rest of this entry »

The New Peopelmaking by Virginia Satir

The New Peopelmaking by Virginia Satir

I can not praise this wonderful book enough! Love, compassion, wisdom, insight and practical tools that everyone can use are all in this one book. Speaking as a step mother with three boys, age from 16 to 21, we, as a family have benefited greatly and continue to do so.

I personally have learned some impressive (little self praising is healthy, as it seems to me, our family is good at praising each other but not ourselves) skills and smooth over many situations. Speaking as a coach and therapist, Virginia has supplied us with more tools, so simple yet so effective. Thank you Virginia – your legacy lives on.

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk atricle Excerpts… Mar 30 2009 By Craig McQueen

DURING his military career, Andy Lorimer saw action in warzones and troublespots including Iraq, the Balkans and Northern Ireland.

….He said: “I was having nightmares, flashbacks, insomnia. My behaviour was very odd. I was sent for evaluation by a psychiatrist and I was diagnosed with PTSD.”

Medically discharged in 2003 with a war pension, Andy then had to try to get help…..

….started getting better thanks to neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).

HR view of NLP

When HR manager Donna Alder had to oversee the outplacement of 700 people at healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline on Merseyside, she drew on the communication tools she had acquired from a course in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).  “I wanted to make sure that people could leave the site with their heads held high,” she says. “I ran group and one-to-one workshops covering subjects such as choosing attitude. I drew on the NLP philosophy that ‘change happens every second of the day’.

Alder is among a growing number of HR professionals to get involved with NLP – a psychological approach that claims to ‘re-pattern’ individuals to achieve anything, Read the rest of this entry »

NLP at Work, by Sue Knight {Book review by Alan Rankin}

Publisher Nicholas Brearley, Pages 374, ISBN 1857883020

When I was asked to review Sue Knight’s updated book, the first thing I did was ask: what is NLP? I discovered that neuro linguistic programming is the study of what works in terms of thinking, language and behaviour, and how these things can be coded, modelled and replicated to achieve consistent excellence in all areas of work and personal life.

The second thing I did was to mention the book to five colleagues. To my surprise I received five strong reactions: Read the rest of this entry »

Public workshop – Thursday, 28 August 08. Topic: Forgive and Remember

NLP Café Brisbane How do we go about forgiving the unforgivable? Many people have said they couldn’t possibly forgive certain acts, certain ways they were treated; in fact it is irrational to forgive for some people. A rational person, when hurt, should react to protect themselves for as long as it is necessary to ensure survival, but at what cost? To forgive does not mean to forget. The challenge here is to forgive and learn so it will never happen again! Learn the power of forgiving and remembering – this is a wonderful pattern developed by Robert MacDonald with great compassion.

For Therapist: Enhance your skills by learning a pattern that will greatly help your client with gentleness and minimum contamination of the client’s model of the world.
For Parents and Managers: Master this skill and use yourself as an example for people who are in your life.
For Individuals: Create new depth of self understanding, profound insight and the power of choices in life.

Questions that create contrast

By Sonya Yeh Spencer,  Word count: 183
A client came to me because she just can not decide if she should start her own business and leave the family business, that her father wishes she can take over one day. She has been struggling with making a decision for six months, and she was feeling extremely stressed, guilty with an array of self doubts.
One of the exercises I took her through sent her spinning in her head and got her to think of her dilemma from a very different perspective. Here are the questions that I asked her Read the rest of this entry »
